About ILCL (General information)
- What is the role of ILCL?
- The International Library of Children’s Literature (ILCL) is a national library dedicated to children’s books, which provides internationally linked library services for children’s literature published in Japan and abroad. For details, please see the following page.
- What kind of book does the ILCL hold?
- The ILCL collects a wide range of Japanese and foreign children's books and related materials. The ILCL also holds special materials and collections.

- Is it true that the ILCL holds all children's books published in Japan?
- The NDL Law stipulates that copies of all new publications in Japan must be sent to the NDL under the Legal Deposit System. The ILCL has children's books and related materials of the publications collected by the NDL. However, some publications take a long time to be deposited and so some have not yet been sent to the NDL.

- The ILCL is a library dedicated to children's books. Children, adults, everyone can use the ILCL. Researchers' Reading Rooms are available to persons aged 18 or over.
About ILCL (History , Building)
- When was the ILCL founded?
- The ILCL was founded as a branch of the National Diet Library in January 2000. It opened partially the following May and started full services in May 2002. For details, please see the following page.
- How old is the building of the ILCL?
- The original Imperial Library building dates from1906 and was enlarged in 1929. The building was remodeled in FY1997–FY2001 for use as the ILCL. For further information, please go the following page.

- Where is the ILCL located?
- The ILCL is located in Ueno Park, Taito-ku, Tokyo. For details, please see the following page.
- Can anybody use the ILCL?
- Anybody can use the ILCL. However, Researchers' Reading Rooms 1&2 on second floor are in principle available only to persons aged 18 or over.
- Do you charge for using the ILCL?
- Admission, reading materials, registration, etc. are all free of charge, but you need to pay for the actual costs of copying.
- Do I have to follow any procedures to use the ILCL?
- You do not follow any procedures to use "Children's Library", "Meet the World", "Museum", etc. To use the Researchers' Reading Rooms 1&2 on the second floor and materials in the stacks, you have to make a user card. These two rooms are available to persons aged 18 or over.
- Can I read materials held by the ILCL in foreign countries?
- We offer an International Loan Service. For more details, please see the following page.
